How To: Smokey Eyes

I get a  lot of questions sent to my email and I try to be as responsive as quickly as possible in the form of posts on my blog. I had posted a quick how to last year on this topic but thought perhaps I should go more in depth! :)

Smokey eyes have been a big style for quite awhile and there's no sign this particular trend is dying. I use this method often! Almost on a daily!

The key to the perfect smoky eye is blending. You want to make sure colors are blended together flawlessly. Also, it's important to pair light base colors with rich dark colors.

I hope this will be helpful :)

Step by Step:
  • Prep the lid. Keeping eye shadow from creasing and parting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is important! To do this start with an eye shadow base referred to as a primer.

  • Apply a light base color all over the lid, the key to a smoky eye is pairing a lighter base with the darker hue. I prefer a nice cream shade for my base depending on the look i'm going for or the time of day. You can use any shade (light) your heart desires! You don't always have to have a black smokey eye!

  • Apply your darker shade. From the outside corner of your eye blend inwards about 1/3 -2/3 into your lid & along your crease. This step is what makes the "smokey" effect come to life. Remember to blend !!

  • Apply eyeliner drawing line thicker in the middle of eye. Remember the lower lash line!
  • Drag the dark color right on down to the lower lash line right over your liner & smudge it around a bit with your brush to add to the smokey effect. I like to use my crease color shadow and apply just a bit over my eyeliner on the outer side.

  • Sweep a light, shimmery/matte shadow over the lids to your brow bone. Add a tad bit to the inner corners of the lid to make your eyes look bright & awake.

Tip:
Remember to keep lips nude. When applying strong makeup such as smoky eyes put the focus on either eyes or lips, never both.

What You Need:
Eye primer (Great for keeping shadow in place, and giving out lasting power)
3 Shadows: One light, one darker & a brow bone color (light)
Eyeliner
Makeup brushes

Mascara

How To: Watermelon Refresh Cleanse

Summer is here and the sun is delivering scorching temperatures! As a refreshing snack you think of watermelon to cool you down, but have you ever used it to cool and treat your skin? It's very beneficial!

The juice from a watermelon also makes a great astringent and helps fight pimples.Rich in A, B and C vitamins it keeps the skin fresh, radiant and hydrated. The acids in the fruits act as exfoliates, and with just one use you will find your skin to be so incredible smooth. The rind of a watermelon is packed with vitamins and minerals, and has natural collagen-enhancing properties such as citrulline, an amino acid that aids the skin’s healing and regenerative processes. With this being said it can in the long run prevent and treat wrinkles on the skin!

1. 1/3 cup juice from a slice of watermelon
2. Apply to face for 5 - 10 minutes, splashing it and rubbing over skin like water.
3. Wash with warm water, then pat dry with cool water.

I add a pinch of sugar to help remove dead skin. I rub the juice in a circular motion and it's as simple as that! Complete this cleanse by topping it off with your favorite day/night cream! Enjoy :)
